About the Valley

Welcome to the July 2007 issue. This issue talks about some great events coming to the region for August and even into Fall. Also, East Tennessee is starting to think about Football—I will give you a look at the University of Tennessee Football schedule.



GATLINBURG

August 17 – 18, 2007: Second Annual Gatlinburg Mountainfest. Across the street from the Hard Rock Café. Two days of bluegrass and genuine Appalachian mountain music, along with crafters and demonstrations. Model A and Model T cars will be on display. An 1800s children’s games area will be available by the Days Gone By Shop in Gatlinburg. Hours are Noon to 10:00 p.m. on Friday, August 17 and 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 18. PIGEON FORGE

August 10 – 12, 2007: StringTime in the Smokies in Pigeon Forge. This is a bluegrass music celebration you will not want to miss! Performers at Patriot Park include the Hackensaw Boys, the Steel Drivers, King Wilkie, and the Peter Rowen/Tony Rice Quartet on Saturday and New Harvest, Jimbo Whaley & Greenbrier, Grasstowne, Claire Lynch Band, and the Tim O’Brien Band on Sunday. Also, don’t miss the jammin’ sessions both days at the Old Mill Pottery House Café—bring your instrument and join in or simply enjoy listening to the great music! Admission is ! Free. Townsend has a lot of events in September you won’t want to miss!

September 16, 2007: Wears Valley 15K Road Race. Race with the Knoxville Track Club. Call 865-687-4617 for more details.

September 28 – 29, 2007: 15th Annual Heritage Festival and Old Timer’s Day. This festival celebrates mountain culture, including bluegrass music, Appalachian arts and crafts demonstrations, and the natural beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains. Admission is free and the activities take place on the grounds of the Townsend Visitors Center. UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE FOOTBALL

East Tennessee is talking about football. Here is a preliminary 2007 football schedule for the UT Volunteers. For a great weekend, plan a trip to the mountains when you can also attend a UT home game at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville.

PEANUT BUTTER CANDY RECIPE

Peanut Butter Balls

Mix together:

1 small jar peanut butter
1 box powdered sugar
1 stick margarine, softened

Roll into balls. Melt dipping chocolate and dip the balls into the melted chocolate. Let stand until dry.
