About the Valley

Welcome to the March 2008 issue of About the Valley. Spring has arrived here in East Tennessee! There are so many fun activities for you and your family during this season.

HAVE YOU VISITED THE ZORB?

The ZORB is a new attraction in Pigeon Forge that opened for the first time last year. The ZORB is an 11 foot high inflatable transparent sphere that you can ride inside. You ride the ZORB down the hill at fast speeds. You are protected by 2 feet of air that protects you from the ground.

The ZORBIT is a ride in which you are securely harnessed inside the transparent ball for a thrilling roll down the hill.

When you ride the ZYDRO, water is added inside the ZORB and you slip, slide, and spin inside the ball all the way down the hill. It is a cross between a water slide and a roller coaster.

There are many different prices for groups based on rides you choose. To reach the ZORB, turn EAST at Pigeon Forge Parkway Light #1 (on Sugar Hollow Road between Great American Buffet & Cracker Barrel) and proceed approximately 2,500 feet and you will see the entrance for the ZORB on your LEFT hand side. The physical address is 203 Sugar Hollow Road. For more information, visit http://www.zorb.com/smoky/ or call (865) 428-2422. HAPPY ZORBING!!

THE DOLLY PARADE

This is one of the biggest highlights of the annual Springfest celebration in Pigeon Forge. On April 11, 2008, the 23rd annual Dolly Parade will begin at 6:00 p.m. featuring Dolly Parton herself as the grand marshal. Dolly will lead the parade down the Parkway. The parade will feature cloggers, twirlers, and numerous high school marching bands.

SEVIERVILLE’S BLOOMIN’ BARBEQUE & BLUEGRASS

The Bloomin’ Barbeque & Bluegrass festival is a family-oriented event that celebrates the beauty of Spring, great barbeque, and famous bluegrass music. The event takes place in the historic downtown Sevierville, Tennessee, on Friday, May 16, and Saturday, May 17.

Coordinated by the Sevierville Chamber of Commerce, the Barbeque Cook-Off is an official barbeque championship of the state of Tennessee.

You will enjoy great bluegrass music from groups, such as Cadillac Sky, Larry Cordle & Lonesome Standard Time, Bradley Walker, and Marty Stuart.

The festival is open from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm on Friday, May 16, and from 11:00 am to 11:00 pm on Saturday, May 17. There is no ticket required to attend the Bloomin’ Barbeque & Bluegrass event. Once inside the event, however, there is a charge for food, drinks, merchandise, and some of the children’s activities.

Parking will be available throughout downtown Sevierville. Handicapped parking will be available near the Court Avenue entrance. For more information, visit http://www.bloominbbq.com. You can also call 1-888-738-4378 or (865) 453-6411.
